History of the Roman Shade

Roman shades, or Roman blinds as they are also called, have been around a lot longer than one may have expected. Since the spectators had to be out in the outdoor arena for most of the day during the events, a shade contraption was created in order to keep the sun away. The other often told origin is during the construction of the Roman Coliseum, there was so much dust in the air that locals would cover their windows with damp cloths to keep the debris out.
