The Wonderful Roman Shade

Window treatment options are infinite. An often under used choice is roman shades. Roman shades have numerous strengths over other styles of shades. When you find a challenging window - with an difficult location, an unusual shape, hard to get at to pull drapes - you may discovered that a roman shade can solve the majority of the issues.

Benefits of Roman Shades

  • You may use many materials, provided that they aren't too heavy or rigid.

  • You don't require all the material as draperies, typically just about half as much.

  • They look great equally outside and inside the window frame.

  • If the roman shade is installed up high, it is possible to still raise and lower it through extending the cords so that they are within standard reach.

  • You may use room darkening lining to ensure the roman shade shuts out as much light as they possibly can.

The Ultimate Guide to Roman Shades - Part Two

Types and Styles of Roman Shades

There are many different types and styles of Roman shades. Some have an antiquated feel while others are contemporary chic. Also, some Roman shades are made of a durable bamboo material while others are comprised of a delicate fabric. Here are some of the more popular Roman blind varieties and styles:

Double Roman Shades

Double Roman shades serve a dual purpose: they are both useful and attractive. Double Roman shades provide an individual with the option to lift one or both shades. The shades are back to back and one is usually a lighter fabric than the other one is. The purpose behind a double Roman shade is to give the homeowner the option to keep all the light out or allow some light in while still maintaining some privacy. You can lift one or both, depending on your desire. The thing to keep in mind is that no matter how you choose to display the blind, the double Roman shade will simply look good to all who see it.

Bamboo Roman Shades

Bamboo Roman shades are durable and aesthetically pleasing window shades. They are made of all or mostly bamboo materials and come in a variety of color tones. They will stand the test of time, keep the bright light out of your home and add an earthy feel to any room in the house. Bamboo Roman shades are quite popular with the Roman shade-buying community.

Balloon Roman Shades

Balloon Roman shades add a unique twist to the usual Roman shade. As opposed to pleating horizontally, balloon Roman shades sometimes have pleats vertically. They also form a relaxed bunch at the bottom of the shade. These elegant Roman shades are in keeping with the Roman shade variety yet are original in their own right by adding an exquisiteness factor not seen in all other types of Roman shades. This type of window covering looks perfect in a classy living room or formal dining room.

Thermal Roman Shades

Thermal Roman shades, also know as insulated Roman shades, serve two purposes which include that of a window covering but also a thermal protective covering. Thermal Roman blinds keep the cold weather and hot weather elements out of the room while making the room look fantastic. Thermal shades often come with an insulated thermal acrylic foam back so that you can insulate your window areas while still allowing your room to look attractive and modern.

Fabric Roman Shades

Many types of Roman shades are available in a wide array of fabrics. Fabrics such as polyester, cotton, linen and rayon can all be used to make Roman shades and each fabric has its own beneficial aspect to it. When one chooses a Roman shade fabric for a room in their home, it is usually wise to look at the interior items within the room to see which type of fabric Roman shade will look best and bring the entire room together in the best possible way.

The Ultimate Guide to Roman Shades - Part One

Choosing a specific home décor for your residence is a serious matter for most individuals. After all, one’s home is their castle and they want to be sure that the interior design which they choose is best suited to their tastes and style. Window coverings are essential for any home, no matter what the size or style of the home may be. One style of window treatment which dresses up the home and the windows within the home is the Roman shade. Roman shades have a unique style all their own and add so much flair and pizazz to a room. The following will provide some interesting information on Roman shades, including their history, the types of Roman shades, the cost of Roman shades and more.

History of the Roman Shade

Roman shades, or Roman blinds as they are also called, have been around a lot longer than one may have expected. Due to the name itself, many will find it no wonder that they have a connection in one way or another to the Romans. While some historians differ on the origin most agree Roman shades played a big part during the days of the Roman Coliseum. Since the spectators had to be out in the outdoor arena for most of the day during the events, a shade contraption was created in order to keep the sun away. These shades would be put out when the sun was high and drawn back in a folded manner, such as with Roman blinds today, when they were not in use. The other often told origin is during the construction of the Roman Coliseum, there was so much dust in the air that locals would cover their windows with damp cloths to keep the debris out. The same folding technique which was used back then was instituted in later years to form the Roman shade of today.
